Supercat Records announces the release of O Christmas, Where Art Thou? by We Three Keanes, a group consisting of producer John Keane and his 17-year-old twin daughters Paige and Rachel.
John Keane is a veteran producer, engineer, and musician who has been involved in the creation of many gold and multi-platinum records. He started John Keane Studios in Athens, Georgia in 1981. He is best known for his work with R.E.M, Widespread Panic, The Indigo Girls, Uncle Tupelo, Vic Chesnutt, and Cowboy Junkies.
For years, the Keanes have made annual Christmas recordings for the entertainment of family and friends. This family tradition has evolved into O Christmas, Where Art Thou? a fully produced collection of nine traditional holiday songs rendered in a sparse, folksy style, with mostly acoustic instruments and tight three-part harmonies.
The CD begins with an upbeat rendition of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and closes with a reverent arrangement of “Silent Night.” John Keane’s haunting pedal steel guitar can be heard throughout the CD, and lends a middle-eastern feel on “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.” Other instrumentation includes mandolin, banjo, piano, all performed by Keane. Lead vocals are mainly shared by Paige and Rachel, with John taking the lead on “Good King Wenceslas.”
The tracks include: “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen;” “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel;” “Jingle Bell Rock;” “Good King Wenceslas;” “Angels We Have Heard on High;” “The First Noel;” “O Holy Night;” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas;” and “Silent Night.”
Local fans are already raving about the collection, saying:
“This is the Christmas album I have been waiting for since I first heard John, Paige and Rachel Keane lead a beautiful, spontaneous neighborhood caroling session at the annual Christmas party two or three years ago... The songs’ traditional arrangements, framed by their father’s simple but deft instrumentation, highlighted Rachel and Paige’s clear, strong voices singing in perfect harmony.” - Bertis Downs, REM Manager
“We Three Keanes have made an album of Christmas music that actually represents the inherent magic of Christmas. Something that I haven’t felt in a long time.” - Dave Schools, Widespread Panic
“Lovely, intricate harmonies! These intimate renderings of old time favorites by the Keane twins really sparkle.” - Jim White
