Description: Part of the Athens Music Scene series. Subject is now-closed T. K. Harty's (The Station, Hoyt Street). "Opened in 1971, it hosted various classic rock and country bands into the late 80s. The whole area burned in 1996." This painting is included in the Athens Sketchbook.
Artist Information: Mary Padgelek studied art at the University of Georgia for both undergraduate and graduate school, and in 1998, she graduated with a Ph.D. degree from the Lamar Dodd School of Art. Padgelek taught art in public school for ten years and was an instructor at the Lamar Dodd School of Art in the Department of Art Education from 1996-2000.
Padgelek has exhibited her art in numerous one-person and group exhibitions throughout the South. She has created a series of paintings on Athens of close to 50 different locations. Since she began this series in 1984, quite a few of the paintings are of businesses that no longer exist.
Several of the paintings she features on athensmusic.net are from her series of "The Athens Music Scene."
