Description: Part of the Athens Music Scene series. Subject is the Last Resort (Clayton Street, downtown Athens). "This was a bar and music club mostly featuring bluegrass, folk, jazz bands and stand-up comedy. Guadalcanal Diary played their first Athens show here. The Last Resort closed in the mid-80s and later opened as a restaurant."
Artist Information: Mary Padgelek studied art at the University of Georgia for both undergraduate and graduate school, and in 1998, she graduated with a Ph.D. degree from the Lamar Dodd School of Art. Padgelek taught art in public school for ten years and was an instructor at the Lamar Dodd School of Art in the Department of Art Education from 1996-2000.
Padgelek has exhibited her art in numerous one-person and group exhibitions throughout the South. She has created a series of paintings on Athens of close to 50 different locations. Since she began this series in 1984, quite a few of the paintings are of businesses that no longer exist.
Some of the paintings she features on athensmusic.net are from her series of "The Athens Music Scene."
